rose pops

ok, here it goes. my first real blog post! this one is going to focus on these rose pops i made for my grandma:
i think they came out pretty nice, but she told me to make plain round ones because she thought roses wouldn't be worth my time. i hope she likes them anyways...

so when i was making these i forgot that i was going to start blogging about my orders, and i forgot to take pictures of the entire process. so if any crucial parts are missing, i'm sorry. i will try to do better next time!

the first step is, of course, making the cake. which i don't have pictures of. and then crumbling the cake, and mixing it with frosting. which i also don't have pictures of. go me! then comes the fun part - shaping them. which i do have pictures of!

first i used a little cookie dough scooper thing, which i think makes it easier because all my little pops come out relatively the same size.

then i rolled them into little balls and shaped them to look like upside down rosebuds. although they kind of look like gumdrops. which i guess are the same thing? don't worry they turn out looking like roses so it's all ok.

i melted some green candy melts in a little bowl, and used a large spoon to roll the top 2 or so inches of the lollipop stick in the green.

that way, when i inserted the stick into the rose bud, it looked like a rose stem. do they look like roses yet?

then i dipped the roses into some merckens pink candy melts, which i melted in my wilton melting pot. on a side note -  i hate wilton candy melts. and wilton edible markers. and wilton frosting. let's just say i hate pretty much wilton anything. they have a monopoly over baking supplies at michaels and definitely do not deserve it. however, the melting pot seems to be working. so far... the merckens candy melts are way better, and the colors are so much brighter! and if you're looking for edible markers that actually WORK on chocolate, try americolor. hands down, they are amazing :) - and now back to the rose pops.

i let the roses dry upside down, so that they would have a nice flat surface. then i used a frosting bag and tip #2 (just a plain little round tip) to make a swirl, representing all the petals of the rose.

before it could dry, i dipped it in some bright pink sugar crystals, to emphasize the swirls some more.

and tada! the finished product. i told you they would look like roses :)

you saw them tied into their little individual bags in the first picture, with green ribbon to look like leaves. that keeps them fresh for longer, and keeps the sprinkles from escaping all over the place. and here they are all boxed up and ready to be delivered. i just got these business cards in the mail a week or two ago, and i am so happy with them.

and that's the end. how to make rose cake pops from start to finish. i hope you enjoyed learning with me :)
